Be Blessed! Be Fabulous! Be YOU!

Deciding to branch off into any endeavor takes courage; whether it is starting a new business, program or having an event. Ultimately, no one wakes up wanting to fail. We hold our dreams close to us and pursue them because our courage gives us a vision of hope. However, it would behoove us to plan accordingly to get our desired results. Some dream bigger than their expectations.

When deciding to start any endeavor, you must consider the monetary factors that are associated with it FIRST! Nothing is worse than creating a buzz about things that don’t materialize as a result of bad planning. It wastes the time of others and you may actually lose your following or fan base that way.  Just as quickly as your endeavor can be loved, it can be disregarded just the same if you haven’t covered your bases.  Of course things happen that aren’t always within our control but it is up to us to be true to our word.  If we tell our clients, fans or the general public that something is going to happen on a specific day, then that is what the public should get. If a situation arises and we can’t deliver, don’t wait until the very last minute to announce the change. Be smart enough to know when the cake is burning and not going to be ready for the guests so always have a backup plan.

With any start up business, it is crucial to make a positive and long lasting first impression.  If you are unreliable or your events always start late or have some kind of issues, people will always remember that.  They remember how you present yourself to them.  If you aren’t willing to make every effort the absolute best then you may not be ready to step into the arena of business.  It is also a good idea to outline what it is you want to do and develop a solid team of people who are better than good at what they do and are willing to assist you.  If you’re not a person who can delegate responsibilities then you may want to learn because no one can do it all alone.  Help is a necessity.

So what have we learned:

  1. Dream
  2. Consider what monetary value comes with your aspirations
  3. Create a buzz with certainty; meaning you have your overhead expenses covered
  4. Be honest with your fans, clients and consumers
  5. Deliver what you promised
  6. Develop a strong team of support

If you take these six steps and combine it with faith, determination and hard work, the pay off will be beneficial because planning makes perfect!

Halloween has come and gone, and now it’s easy to feel winter as soon as you open a window or go outside.  If you’re anything like me, you love Halloween and seeing everyone all dressed up, and you particularly enjoy putting together a costume – not just buying one off the rack.  Or, if you’re not like me, you hate Halloween, you hate getting dressed up, and you think it’s a huge hassle to put together a costume, so you just sit it out.  Maybe the problem is that you don’t find dressing up as someone you’re not an attractive idea, maybe you object to dressing up as a sex object (I’m looking at you every Halloween costume that’s been manufactured in the last 5 years), maybe you don’t like goop on your face, or maybe it just doesn’t seem like that much fun to you.

Whether you love Halloween costumes or hate the idea, the process that goes into thinking about a Halloween costume is very similar to how I think about getting dressed.  It’s like putting together an outfit for every day, some people love it and some people hate it.  The process doesn’t have to be painful though.  A lot of people don’t like putting together an outfit because things don’t fit, or, even more common, they feel like they have great things, but they just don’t know how to put them together.  These are the people that show up to Halloween parties in the same costume every year.  (Yes, people have figured out that witch is your go-to. Facebook photo albums don’t lie!).  Even if you don’t find Halloween to be all that fun, try changing the way that you think about getting dressed in the morning.  Here are some tips:

When you first start to think about putting together a costume for Halloween, you might think of a theme – what’s popular, what’s trendy, what will everyone else at the party show up as?  When you first start thinking about putting together an outfit for the day, you can think of a theme here, too:  military, cape, a fabulous necklace, romantic, rocker chic, CEO on-the-rise.  Then think about what’s popular, what’s trendy, and what everyone else might show up in.  Just like you might look to others for inspiration for a costume, or you might look at costumes online for inspiration, you can do the same for your outfits.

If I’m feeling tough in the morning or like I need to protect myself that day, I’ll focus on pulling some tougher looking pieces into my outfit. I’ll sit down at my computer and look through some fashion blogs by searching for “military” or “rocker,” and i’ll take inspiration from what’s there, and then I’ll go to my closet and see what i can replicate.  Some of my favorite places to look for inspiration are my own blog, xoxonettaP (http://www.xoxonettaP.com), wardrobediaries.com, or Frugal Fashionista (http://www.frugal-fashionistas.com/).  I’ve created a look book for myself, too.  Whenever I see things in magazines that I love, I pull them out and paste them into this look book.  Overtime, it’s expanded into several notebooks’ worth of inspiration.  Sometimes I’ll also watch YouTube videos – people post their OOTD (outfits of the day) all the time!  It’s great to see real fashion on real bodies.  These are all good places to pull inspiration for my costume of the day.

That’s just one way I recommend thinking about getting ready in the morning if you’re finding dressing yourself to be a challenge.  If you’re feeling uninspired by the whole process or you just hate the idea of getting dressed, then try to rejuvenate your juices and get inspired before you go out the door.  Find a theme, find some inspiration, and dress accordingly.
